AllOutdoor Review: Jones Dairy Farm All-Natural Pork Sausage Roll

By Adam Scepaniak

Many of us are hunters here and love not only the pursuit of our hunts, but also the reward of fresh meat upon a successful harvest. When we can’t frequent “nature’s grocery store” out in the wild, we still want to have delicious, wholesome, and nutritious food at home. So, that means reading a lot of nutrition labels and being very choosy in what we allow into our households. So, it is nice when you come across brands or food that don’t have crap in them (food dyes, unnecessary sugar, preservatives, etc). We were recently introduced to Jones Dairy Farm and they are brand like that. So, today we are going to take a look at the All-Natural Pork Sausage Roll product from Jones Dairy Farm to see how good it actually is and if it lives up to the hype. Let’s dive in!

Suggested Prep

Jones Dairy Farm is not looking to take a shot at anyone’s cooking prowess or intelligence here, but this is some of the suggested preparation and storage for their product if some cooks in the reading audience don’t often make their meals from scratch.

  • Pan Fry (Sliced) – Slice as suggested on package. Fry pork sausage over medium heat, turning occasionally, until an internal temperature of 160°F is reached. Cook thoroughly but avoid overcooking. Approximately 8-10 minutes if thawed, 10-12 minutes if frozen.
  • Pan Fry (Crumbled) – Thaw roll in refrigerator overnight. Over low-medium heat, break apart sausage with a spatula to crumble. Continue to stir and break down sausage to smaller pieces to allow for even browning. Cook to an internal temperature of 160°F, roughly 6-8 minutes.
  • Storage – Keep frozen and use by date on package.

Meal Prep and Cooking – Jones Dairy Farm All-Natural Pork Sausage Roll

So, how did the All-Natural Pork Sausage Roll from Jones Dairy Farm fair once we busted it out of its package?… We had two sausage rolls sent out to us for this review, and my wife and I decided to use them a couple different ways for breakfast. Before the stove burners got turned on, we did a couple inspections for quality.

Color and Quality

My family raises Red Angus beef, chickens, pigs, and honeybees as our family attempts to procure nearly all of our food from scratch (where possible). So, I am intimately familiar with meat and food products that are original and clean versus some of the fake, chemical-filled products found in innumerable grocery stores.

The meat and fat present in the Sausage Roll did, in fact, look clean and pure to me. The fat segments or pockets were white and clean. There wasn’t yellow or any discoloring that would raise an eyebrow. The meat was also a strong pink color, typical of pork; whereas, beef will normally be a much more bright red.

Seasoning

If you look close, you can also see actual spices in the sausage roll as well. This seasoning would shine through once we began cooking, but the fact that you could see if beforehand was a great sign. My wife also commented that this pork meat was seasoned nicely, too.

Cooking – Breakfast Sausage Patties

One of the two ways in which we prepped the All-Natural Pork Sausage Roll was to smash them into breakfast patties. We had to fight our normal urge to season this because it was already pre-seasoned. Just using a stereotypical frying pan on medium heat, we cooked up some breakfast patties, which turned out great. We did about 4-5 minutes of cooking per side.

Cooking – Ground Breakfast Crumble

The other way in which we prepared the All-Natural Pork Sausage Roll was by making a simply fried crumble to go along with breakfast potatoes and eggs. Once a frying pan was brought up to medium-high heat, the pork was browned and fried over the course of 10 minutes with constant stirring.

This turned out really well, and if you want an extra crisp to your pork, it is easier to gently overcook and add a tiny bit of crunch to the pork by choosing this crumble method (simply browning the pork).

Final Thoughts

So, what are my final thoughts on the All-Natural Pork Sausage Roll from Jones Dairy Farm?… Overall, I appreciated that it was a “clean product:” no unnecessary chemicals, food dyes, or weird ingredients you can’t pronounce. It was seasoned well, tasted good, and I did not witness any red flags in this product. Overall, if anyone is looking for a pork product that you can buy in-stores that is healthy and clean for you, this is a great option.

In closing, I want to say thank you to Jones Dairy Farm for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their All-Natural Pork Sausage Roll. That is greatly appreciated.
