Ammunition Depot's AmmoVault lets customers buy ammunition a little at a time, leave it in the company's warehouse, and request delivery later. Purchases can be made individually or on a recurring schedule, with plans starting at $5.
This is not a mystery-box subscription or store-credit program. AmmoVault says each successful purchase buys live ammunition reserved for the customer's account. The company stores it in a climate-controlled facility and insures it while it remains there.
However, there is a catch. Customers choose a caliber, use type, and sometimes bullet weight, but they do not necessarily choose a specific brand. The site's own example says a purchase of 9mm 115-grain practice ammunition may be filled with different qualifying brands. AmmoVault also says its prices match Ammunition Depot's box prices, while case lots sold through the regular store may cost less per round.
Free storage has an inactivity clause
AmmoVault advertises no membership fee and no storage fee for active accounts. According to the terms and conditions, an account becomes inactive after 12 consecutive months without a purchase, login, account or payment update, or response to a reactivation email. A shipment request is not separately listed as qualifying activity. The company says it will attempt to contact an inactive customer.
If the account remains inactive for another 60 days, a monthly storage fee begins. That fee is 4 percent of the stored inventory's value when the account became inactive, or $10, whichever is greater. The fee is paid by reducing the ammunition credited to the account. Logging in, buying ammunition, updating account details, or responding to the email reactivates the account, but ammunition already applied to fees is not recoverable.
Customers can pause or cancel recurring purchases at any time. Closing the account is also allowed, although the terms say refunds for stored inventory are not guaranteed, and any buyback or refund is offered at AmmoVault's discretion.
Shipping still follows the usual rules
Stored ammunition can be shipped on request, subject to federal, state, and local restrictions. AmmoVault's shipping policy says requests worth at least $199 qualify for free ground shipping; smaller shipments incur a charge. Taxes and any shipping fees are calculated when delivery is requested.
The service does not ship ammunition outside the contiguous United States or to PO boxes. Several jurisdictions require permits, identification, or delivery through a licensed dealer, and ammunition cannot be returned once shipped. Buyers should check the current rules for their destination before building a reserve they may not be able to receive directly.
