A knife at arm’s length inside a home is an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm, and if the account holds, that is what deputies are describing. But a domestic shooting is never evaluated on the last few seconds alone. Investigators will want to know who escalated, whether he could have put a door between them, and what the physical evidence says about where each of them stood. This is the kind of case where the shooter’s own words are the only version on the record, and that cuts both ways.
As of Sunday night, the man remained detained and his wife remained in the hospital.
