LITTLE ROCK, AR — Arkansas voters decide Tuesday, Nov. 3, whether to expand the gun-rights language in the state constitution to specifically cover ammunition, firearm accessories and firearm components.
The measure is Issue 2, one of four proposed constitutional amendments on Tuesday’s statewide ballot, as reported by KJNB. The other three cover voter eligibility, economic development districts and up to $500 million in bonds for water and wastewater infrastructure.
What Issue 2 would do
Issue 2 would expand the right to keep and bear arms in the Arkansas Constitution to specifically include ammunition, firearm accessories and components. It would also make clear that the right applies to lawful hunting, recreational use and other lawful purposes.
How the vote works
A FOR vote supports the expansion. An AGAINST vote leaves the current language in Article 2, Section 5 of the Arkansas Constitution unchanged.
A firearm does not work without ammunition and parts. Naming those items in the constitution puts them alongside the firearm itself rather than leaving them to be argued over later.
