Beretta's APX A1 family just got faster. The company has introduced the APX A1 Ported, a variant built around a precision ported barrel and slide system designed to manage recoil impulse and get the gun back on target quicker for follow-up shots. It's a straightforward addition to an already-proven platform, and it arrives configured for shooters who want the optics-ready slide without sacrificing the tactile feedback of an iron-sight setup.

The porting system pairs a single angled port in the barrel with seven ports machined into the slide. According to Beretta, this configuration directs expanding gas upward, reducing muzzle rise and felt recoil. In practical terms, that usually means a flatter shooting experience and faster splits, whether you're running it on the range, in a competition stage, or for personal defense. The engineering is simple and proven.

What sets the APX A1 Ported apart operationally is the control package. Beretta enlarged the magazine release and added an ambidextrous slide release that can be configured for either hand. Both controls are tactile enough to manipulate quickly without looking, which matters when you're chasing speed on a timer or managing a defensive scenario. The slide comes aggressive, with deep serrations that won't slip under pressure or when drawing from a holster. Beretta backs the finish with its Aquatech Shield coating, which handles corrosion and chemical exposure.
The factory optics-ready slide is the next logical path for this type of pistol. The cut is designed to accept most current red dot platforms, though you'll need to source a compatible mounting plate separately. The pistol ships with three magazines and comes in FDE and OD Green. The OD Green seems to ship with a black slide, while the FDE has a full color finish.
