Defending the Party: Concealed Carry Holder Released After Killing Armed Robbery Suspect

Police in Hazel Park, Michigan, have released a 21-year-old man who was initially taken into custody following a fatal shooting at a short-term rental property on May 29, 2026. Investigators determined that the suspect, a licensed concealed carry holder, acted in self-defense after the deceased, a 20-year-old Detroit man, allegedly pointed a gun at someone at the party to steal a watch. Following the incident, City Manager Ed Klobucher revoked the rental property's license and imposed a citywide moratorium on new short-term rental licenses.
