Leupold Adds Illuminated PR2 and PR3 Reticles to Mark 4HD
The Mark 4HD built its following on being a genuinely capable precision scope that stays under two grand, and Leupold just filled a gap that competitive shooters and hunters had been asking about since launch. The Mark 4HD family now offers three of its cleanest reticles in an illuminated configuration for the first time: Illum. PR2-MOA, Illum. PR2-MIL, and Illum. PR3-MIL.
Leupold originally built the PR2-MOA, PR2-MIL, and PR3-MIL reticles with input from top competitors and professional shooters who wanted a clean sight picture without the clutter of a busy Christmas-tree design. Product Line Manager John Snodgrass said an illuminated version was one of the very first requests the company got after the reticles launched. That is the whole story here. Same proven reticles, now with a glowing aiming point for low light.
All three new reticles are available across two configurations:
- Chassis: 6-24×52 and 8-32×56
- First focal plane, 34mm maintube
- Push-button illumination with 8 settings, CR2032 battery
- Motion Sensor Technology sleeps the illumination after 5 minutes, waking when the scope moves
- ZeroLock push-button elevation, with ZeroLock windage on select models
- Professional-Grade Optical System, waterproof, fogproof, shockproof
- MSRP: $1,699.99, matching the existing illuminated Mark 4HD models
Both configurations sit in first focal plane, so the reticle scales with magnification and your holds stay true at any power. That matters more on a PR3-MIL than on a simpler dot, since the whole point of these reticles is fast hold-offs and shot corrections without dialing.
The illumination running on Motion Sensor Technology is the practical piece. It kills the dead-battery problem that plagues illuminated optics left switched on in a safe, and it brings the reticle back the instant you shoulder the rifle. Everything else about the Mark 4HD carries over, including the 4:1 zoom and the Beaverton, Oregon machining that Leupold leans on hard in its marketing.
