Leupold Launches the BX-3 Alpine HD Binocular in 10×42 and 12×50

By Sam.S

Leupold is adding the BX-3 Alpine HD binocular to their lineup, and the pitch is straightforward: Elite Optical System glass in a lightweight magnesium chassis at a price point that is hard to argue with. The 10×42 comes in at $299.99 and the 12×50 at $349.99, which puts them in a competitive spot for hunters who want serious glass without spending into the $500 and up tier.

The Elite Optical System is what Leupold uses to maximize light transmission and field of view, and the Guard-ion lens coating handles water and dirt shedding to keep the image clear in field conditions. The magnesium chassis is the lightweight structure play here. At 22.6 ounces for the 10×42 and 29.2 ounces for the 12×50, neither configuration is going to fatigue you on a long pack-out. The enhanced armor texture on the exterior handles grip in rain or cold.

The interchangeable Form-Fit eyecups are worth noting specifically for long glassing sessions. Being able to dial in the fit reduces eye strain over hours of use, which matters more than most people realize until they have spent a full morning on a glassing point.

The 12×50 is the western hunting choice, giving you more magnification and a larger objective for low-light glassing on elk and mule deer. At $50 separating the two, most hunters will find the decision comes down to how they hunt more than anything else.
