LYNNWOOD, WA — Masked suspects used a white Toyota Tacoma to ram the front entrance of a jewelry store in the 6500 block of 196th Street Southwest at 12:26 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, and someone inside answered with gunfire, according to the Lynnwood Police Department.
Lynnwood PD said multiple masked suspects attempted to rob the business and that an employee fired a gun at them, causing them to flee. Surveillance video shows three vehicles circling the parking lot before the truck came through the glass, and a group of masked suspects jumping out and running inside through the gap, one of them holding what looked like an axe, as reported by FOX 13 Seattle, which identified the business as Medina Jewelers and the man who fired as the store owner.
The truck came through the front of the building. Glass flew to the back wall. Employees ran. The masked group came in behind the truck.
The owner grabbed his gun and fired. The group turned and ran back out through the hole without taking anything. The video shows the man who had been driving the truck climbing out and following them, hunched over, while the owner kept the gun pointed at him and the suspects waited on a getaway car.
This happened at lunchtime on a commercial street with people on the sidewalk. Commander Joe Dickinson said several pedestrians were out and about when a vehicle crashed into a building and shots rang out. That is the hardest version of this problem for anyone who carries at work: you do not get to choose the hour, the backdrop, or how many people are standing behind the threat. Knowing what is past your target is not a range formality. At 12:26 in the afternoon on 196th, it is the whole calculation.
Police said the suspects fled in two additional vehicles, a black BMW SUV and a silver Toyota or Infiniti sedan. The BMW struck a parked vehicle on the way out and may have visible damage to the front passenger side. Neither getaway vehicle had license plates.

No injuries were reported at the scene, and Lynnwood PD said it is unknown whether any of the suspects were hit. Dickinson said investigators were still working to determine whether the suspects were armed, and called the daylight timing a rare occurrence for the city.
No arrests have been announced. Detectives are actively investigating and are asking anyone who recognizes the suspects or the vehicles in the surveillance video, or who has information about the incident, to email [email protected] and reference LPD Case #2026-37986.
