HOUSTON, TX — A man walked up on three suspects robbing his friend outside a southwest Houston convenience store late Saturday night and fired a single shot, killing the suspect who was armed with a Glock handgun, according to the Houston Police Department.
Officers responded at 11:25 p.m. to reports of a shooting outside the Quick Food Store in the 8900 block of Bissonnet Street, near South Gessner Road in the Braeburn area, as reported by FOX 26 Houston and ABC13.
According to HPD Lt. Pulido, three men tried to rob a man outside the store. One of them was armed with a Glock and took personal property from the victim.
The victim’s friend approached while the robbery was still underway. He fired once. The round struck the armed suspect in the chest. The suspect died at the scene.
The other two suspects ran. The robbery victim and the man who fired left together in a vehicle, police said.
Police said everyone involved appeared to be in their 20s. Investigators do not yet know whether the two groups knew each other, and no one involved has been publicly identified.
Three men on one, with at least one gun among them. That is what the friend walked into. Stepping in for someone else is held to the same standard as defending yourself: an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm. The property in the suspect’s hand is never the reason. The threat to the person is.
What happened after the shot is what this investigation now turns on. The shooter and the victim drove off, and the HPD Homicide Division and Crime Scene Unit are reviewing the store’s surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to identify everyone involved. If you ever have to fire in defense of yourself or someone else, the mindset is the same every time. Stay, call 911, and make sure yours is the first account police hear. Leave, and investigators build the story from video and witnesses before they ever hear from you.
