BALTIMORE, MD — A recently released felon pulled a gun from a backpack and opened fire in a parking lot next to a youth football game at Leon Day Park, shooting toward the field and the area where the victims were, according to charging documents. Twelve-year-old Khloe Ishway was killed. Three other people were wounded. One of two men the suspect had just exchanged words with returned fire, striking him in the ankle.

The account of the shooting comes from charging documents, court records, and a state corrections statement, as reported by WMAR-2 News. Khloe was shot near a youth football game.

The man charged in her death is 23-year-old Tyree Reynolds. He faces multiple charges, including murder and attempted murder.

According to the charging documents, surveillance video shows Reynolds standing in the parking lot beside the field. Two men walked past him. They appeared to exchange words. Police say Reynolds reached into a backpack, pulled out a gun, and opened fire.

One of the men appears to return fire. A round struck Reynolds in the ankle.

The charging documents draw a sharp line between the two shooters. The man who returned fire is described as firing away from the football field. Reynolds is seen firing toward the field and the area where the victims were located.

Every round fired in a crowded place lands somewhere. Knowing your target and what is beyond it is part of the mindset anyone who carries has to hold onto, and it matters most when someone else has already started shooting. Once Reynolds opened fire, the man who answered it sent his rounds away from a youth football field, according to these documents.

Five people were shot in all, including Khloe and Reynolds. The charging documents detail injuries to three others. One person was shot in the face, another in the calf, and another in the lower back. All three survived.

WMAR reports that a release from the Charm City Buccaneers said the incident stemmed from an argument over a parking space.

Reynolds pleaded guilty in July 2022 to first-degree assault and use of a firearm in a felony or violent crime, according to court records. He was sentenced to 15 years, with all but five years suspended. The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services confirmed he was released from prison on Sept. 25, 2026.

“Reynolds served the entirety of that five-year term, day for day, and was released on September 25, 2026,” the department said in a statement. The department added that it is “heartbroken by the tragic death of 12-year-old Khloe Ishway and the injuries to innocent bystanders.”

That conviction carried a 15-year sentence. Federal law under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) bars anyone convicted of a crime punishable by more than a year in prison from possessing a firearm. Reynolds was prohibited from having the gun he pulled out of that backpack.

More from USA Carry:

The investigation remains open and active, and detectives are searching for a second suspect. WMAR’s report does not name that person or the man who returned fire. No charging decision regarding the man who returned fire has been reported. The charges against Reynolds are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless convicted.

Khloe’s mother, Kristin Reese, described the loss as devastating. “These couple days have been so hard, but I have to stay strong for my baby, of course, but it has been a disaster,” Reese said.
