PROOF Research Expands PXT Barrels With Steel Competition Blanks

PROOF Research launched its PXT barrel technology back in May, and last week the company widened the lineup in a big way. The PXT expansion adds a new category of steel competition blanks, more pre-fit options, and fresh caliber choices, pushing the technology onto more platforms than the launch lineup covered.

The short version of PXT, or PROOF Exponential Twist, is rifling that starts slow at the breech and accelerates toward the muzzle. That gradual engagement reduces engraving force as the bullet enters the rifling, which PROOF says improves consistency and extends barrel life. Director of sales and marketing Brandon Hulzebosch pointed to strong customer demand for more platforms and calibers as the reason for the expansion.

Here is what is new:

• Steel competition blanks in .224, .243, .257, .264, and .308
• Pre-fit barrels for Impact Precision and Terminus actions, carbon fiber and steel
• Pre-fit chamberings including .223 Rem, .22 Creedmoor, 6 ARC, 6 Creedmoor, 6 GT, 6 Dasher, 25 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 7 Backcountry, 7 PRC, .308 Win, and .300 PRC
• New .243 and .257 carbon-fiber bolt barrel blanks
• New AR carbon-fiber configs in .300 Blackout and .308 Win
• New AR steel barrels in .223 Wylde, .300 Blackout, and 6.5 Creedmoor
• Expanded pre-fit compatibility for Zermatt Arms, Tikka, Defiance Ruckus, Lone Peak, and Falkor actions

The steel competition blanks are the headline for match shooters, pairing the exponential-twist rifling with steel construction instead of the carbon-fiber wrap PROOF is known for. That gives PRS and NRL competitors a barrel option that fits how they build match rifles.

PROOF didn’t break out individual pricing for every new SKU in this release. Based on the existing PXT barrel structure, barrels run from roughly $899 for steel AR options up to around $1,349 for carbon-fiber pre-fits, with blanks in between. Confirm exact pricing per configuration with PROOF or your gunsmith.

Adding support for Zermatt, Tikka, Defiance, Lone Peak, and Falkor actions is the practical win here, since it means more shooters can drop PXT onto the action they already run.
