S&W Model 1854 Lever Guns Ship With Vortex Crossfire HD Scope
Buying a lever gun and then figuring out optics is its own project. Smith & Wesson decided to skip that step for you. The company has rolled out factory scoped combos of the Model 1854, each one mounted with a Vortex Crossfire HD 2-7×32 and ready to hunt the day it leaves the counter.
The scope carries the Illuminated Dead-Hold 2A BDC reticle in MOA. That’s a reasonable pairing for the two chamberings offered here, since both .30-30 Winchester and .45-70 Government drop fast enough past 150 yards that holdover marks earn their keep. The 2-7x magnification range also fits how these rifles actually get used, which is timber, brush, and short-to-medium shots where a big scope just gets in the way.

Smith & Wesson prices the Crossfire HD at $269.99 on its own, and bundling it into the rifle package cuts $189.99 off what you’d pay assembling the same setup piece by piece. Add in the labor and hardware you’d otherwise spend mounting rings and getting the thing bore sighted, and the combos make sense for anyone who wants to sight in once and go hunting.
Furniture is a straight choice between black synthetic and walnut. The synthetic guns run $1,479 in .45-70, while walnut versions in both calibers list at $1,579. Everything else about the platform carries over from the standard 1854, including the stainless barrel and receiver, threaded muzzle, and M-LOK compatible forend that has made this rifle more modular than most lever actions on the shelf.
We’ve watched the lever gun category get crowded over the last few years with Marlin back in production and Henry expanding constantly. Selling a complete, sighted package instead of another bare rifle is a decent way for Smith & Wesson to stand apart from that pile.
