Savage Gear Scandal Predator: A Glide Bait Built for Musky

We covered the original Scandal glide bait back in February, when Savage Gear pointed it at largemouth and priced it as a premium bait without the boutique price tag. The musky and pike crowd has been waiting on their version, and it arrived in early July. The Scandal Predator keeps the same two sizes and the same cross-tail architecture, but the build is reworked for fish that eat ten-inch baits and then try to throw them.

The body starts from a 3D scan of a real trout, with photo-print finishes pulled from actual fish instead of airbrushed approximations. Savage Gear built it slow-sinking, and that is the piece that matters most for musky work. A bait that hangs instead of diving keeps working through the pause and holds position through a figure 8 at boatside rather than sinking out from under a follower. Anybody who has watched a fish track a bait all the way to the transom and lose interest on the turn knows exactly why that detail earns its place.

Rotating hook hangers are the feature worth understanding here. When a musky gets a bait crossways in its mouth and starts head-shaking, a fixed hanger hands the fish a lever to work against. A hanger that spins takes that leverage off the table. The 3X trebles follow the same logic, since standard wire opens up under that kind of pressure and you lose the fish at the net.

The Predator also undercuts the original Scandal by ten dollars in both sizes. The bass version shipped with a set of feathered trebles and a custom soft case, and the Predator swaps those for the ventilated clam pack.
