Shell Shock Technologies has commercially released its .338 Lapua NAS3 cartridge cases, extending the company’s two-piece NAS3 technology into one of the most demanding long-range calibers on the market. The cases are available now direct from the manufacturer in quantities ranging from 250 to 5,000.
The NAS3 design pairs a corrosion-resistant nickel-alloy body with an ultra-durable stainless-steel head. According to the company, the result is a case that is roughly 30 percent lighter than traditional brass while offering about 11 percent more internal capacity. That extra volume allows more efficient powder burn, which translates into higher velocities at standard SAAMI pressures. Shell Shock claims customers are seeing standard bullet velocities up to approximately 3,125 feet per second.
Shell Shock has been expanding its NAS3 lineup for several years now. TFB previously covered the launch of the company’s .308 unloaded cases and the broader Shell Tech ammunition line. The platform now covers .300 BLK, 5.56 NATO, 6.5 Creedmoor, and 7.62 NATO, the last of which passed a rigid military evaluation according to American Rifleman.
For the .338 Lapua specifically, the company says the cases deliver match-grade dimensional consistency, concentricity, and neck tension. Those are the foundation of the tight velocity spreads required for sub-MOA accuracy at distance. Shell Shock also notes the two-piece construction is gentle on extractors and supports smooth ejection through repeated firing cycles.
Peter Foss, managing partner and CEO of Shell Shock Technologies, said the new cases take the .338 Lapua, "the benchmark for long-range performance for decades," into a new performance class. The pitch to military and law enforcement users is extended effective range without compromising safety or reliability. For civilian precision shooters and handloaders, the draw is a more consistent, longer-lasting case at a lower cost per round.
The cases are compatible with standard .338 Lapua Magnum load data and the full range of commercial, match, and tactical projectiles. You can find pricing and availability directly from Shell Shock Technologies.
