SHOT 2026: PTR Launch the 9SDM Series — A Modernized Integrally Suppressed MP5

PTR Industries made a major splash at SHOT Show 2026 with the introduction of the PTR 9SDM — a modernized take on the legendary MP5 SD platform. Combining PTR's iconic roller-delayed blowback action with an integrated suppressor system and contemporary features, the 9SDM is generating serious buzz among 9mm carbine enthusiasts and Class III FFL dealers.

What Is the PTR 9SDM?

The PTR 9SDM is PTR Industries' modernized take on the MP5 SD concept. The "SDM" stands for SD Modernized. Where the original MP5 SD used a permanently integrated suppressor with a ported barrel, the PTR 9SDM takes a different approach: it uses a serialized pre-suppressor blast chamber called the Universal SD Adapter (USDA) paired with a removable suppressor.

This design has an important legal implication: both the USDA blast chamber and the removable suppressor are legally classified as suppressors under the NFA, making the PTR 9SDM a three-tax-stamp firearm (the host rifle, the USDA, and the suppressor each require registration). With the $0 NFA tax stamp that went into effect January 1, 2026, this setup is now significantly more accessible than it was previously.
