At SHOT SHOW, South Carolina’s biggest MP5 fans, PTR, were showing off their latest addition to their roller-delayed blowback PCC line up, two new integrally suppressed SD models. Available in two versions, the 9SDM-A and 9SDM-B they are based on PTR’s 9CT. Intriguingly, both of the 9SDMs are three-stamp guns, just a couple of months ago that would have made these guns a commercial nightmare but now the changes to the NFA have come into effect, a three-stamp gun is likely to become much less of a rarity!
[SHOT 2026] PTR Launch the 9SDM Series - a Modernized SD!
Both the 9SDM guns share a near identical configuration, both are designed around a 6 inch ported barrel and have a full-length Picatinny top rail, a removable wider SD-style MLOK forend which can accommodate suppressors, metal MagPul backup sights, and an extended charging handle. The 9SDMs also come with a PRT CS1 collapsing stock.
The 9SDMs both have ported barrels which allow gases to flow into what PTR are calling a pre-suppressor - the Universal SD Adapter or USDA. The USDA is designed to capture and slow high-pressure ported gas before it enters the suppressor. For increased modularity, the USDA is threaded to accept both HUB Alpha and HUB Bravo suppressor thread patterns. In terms of the effectiveness of this pre-suppressor and suppressor set up, PTR note that 9x19mm 127gr rounds are subsonic when fired from the 9SDMs.
The three NFA tax stamps comprise of the suppressor, the pre-suppressor threaded muzzle device (the USDA) and the weapon’s short overall length.
Now the big difference between the A and B models is the model of suppressor. The 9SDM-A comes with a VENT-2 suppressor. Here’s how PTR describe the VENT-2 when paired with the 9SDM:
“The 9SDM-A will come with the award-winning PTR VENT 2 suppressor (threaded HUB-A 1.125-28). Although the VENT 2 was not originally engineered for the 9SDM, its performance is outstanding and delivers exceptional sound suppression on the 9SDM and other compatible firearms. The VENT 2 is manufactured using 3D-printed titanium, utilize innovative Purposely Induced Porosity™ (PIP) technology, and are protected by a DLC coating. Both the VENT SDM and VENT 2 suppressors excel at reducing sound signature and back pressure while preserving the balance and smooth recoil of the 9SDM.”
The second option is the 9SDM-B which features the specially developed VENT SDM, here’s what PTR has to say about this configuration:
“The 9SDM-B will include the new purpose-built PTR VENT™ SDM suppressor (threaded HUB-B 1.375-24). The VENT SDM suppressor was designed specifically for ultimate sound suppression when paired with the 9SDM. The VENT SDM and is manufactured using 3D-printed titanium, utilize innovative Purposely Induced Porosity™ (PIP) technology, and are protected by a DLC coating. The VENT SDM excel at reducing sound signature and back pressure while preserving the balance and smooth recoil of the 9SDM.”
I think personally of the two I prefer the 9SDM-B as it has a more classic MP5SD look to it.
Both models will be retailing with an MSRP of $4,438.00. You can sign up for updates on PTR’s website but the first batch of guns are in production now and should be shipping by February.
