TEXARKANA, TX — A 36-year-old man who was shot multiple times while being held at gunpoint during an early Friday robbery at River Crossing Apartments fired back and hit one of the two suspects, according to the Texarkana, Texas, Police Department.
Detectives have obtained aggravated robbery warrants for Ladaidrian Jackson, 18, and Roberlynsti McHenry, 17, as reported by Texarkana Today. Police say McHenry is the one who was struck when the victim returned fire. He is in critical condition. Jackson is still wanted.
Officers were called to the back of the complex in the 1000 block of College Drive a little before 2 a.m. on a report that someone had been shot. A few minutes later, a second wounded man was found in the CVS parking lot on North State Line Avenue. Detectives determined both men were shot during the same incident at the apartments.
According to police, Jackson and McHenry held the 36-year-old at gunpoint. Jackson shot him multiple times. The man fired back. His rounds hit McHenry.
Both the victim and McHenry were taken to CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System and then flown to hospitals in Little Rock.
Not every defensive gun use ends with the defender unhurt. Sometimes the attacker fires first, the defender is already hit, and the fight is still on. This man took multiple rounds and still put fire on one of the two men who had him at gunpoint. That is a mindset point as much as a marksmanship point. Getting shot is not the end of the fight unless you decide it is, and training that accounts for fighting through a wound is training worth doing.
Police have described the 36-year-old throughout as the robbery victim, and the only warrants announced are the two naming Jackson and McHenry. McHenry will be arrested on his warrant when he is released from the hospital. The charges against both are allegations, and neither has been convicted.
