SIG Sauer M17-SOF - Fully Kitted Full-Size With Manual Safety

Almost ten years ago, when the U.S. Army announced that a customized version of the P320 had won the XM17 Modular Handgun System competition, the pistol that emerged became one of the most recognizable sidearms in the world. Now SIG Sauer is taking that platform in a more purpose-built direction with the M17-SOF, which the company describes as "A Mission-Focused Evolution of the M17."

The M17-SOF builds on the M17 platform with a focus on control, ergonomics and overall performance - and it looks the business! At the top sits the familiar M17 slide, finished in Coyote stainless steel with a ROMEO-M17 red dot already mounted at the factory. SIG says this gives shooters fast, intuitive sight acquisition without the need for a separate optic purchase or a trip to the gunsmith.

Below the slide, the changes get more interesting. The pistol uses a Coyote Brouwer M1811 grip module with a detachable magwell, which SIG says improves ergonomics and makes reloads more efficient. A GoGun Gas Pedal takedown lever adds another point of contact for the support hand, and the X-Series flat blade trigger is fitted to the fire control unit. The barrel is a threaded 5.5-inch (139.7 mm) carbon steel unit, so suppressor use is on the table from day one. We like that!

The pistol has an overall length of 9.125 inches, a width of 1.75 inches, a height of 6.25 inches and a weight of 32.8 ounces with a magazine. Sight radius is 6.875 inches, and the optic sits on the M17/M18 MHS footprint. The M17-SOF is covered by the SIG Sauer Infinite Guarantee.
