Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday, brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturer of the new Victra 20-gauge shotgun suppressor. This week we are taking a first look at an interesting suppressor from Savage Arms. This noted maker of bolt-action rifles has gotten into the silencer game as well, and I just received two of the two silencers from them for review. The first one we will take a look at is a reflex design known as B.O.B.
Silencer Saturday @ TFB:
- Silencer Saturday #455: Can We Have Captive Piston Ammo Now?
- Silencer Saturday #454: 375 Raptor
- Silencer Saturday #453: NFA Sea Change In Wake Of ATF Guidance Letter
- Silencer Saturday #452: Silent But Deadly Subsonic Rifle Match
- Silencer Saturday #451: Return of the LVAW
At first glance, the AccuCan 30 BOB looks like most other silencers. It is a black cylinder. There are some external textures that help with tightening it, and it looks a little wider than many silencers but it is, once again, a metal cylinder that attaches to the muzzle.
The unique feature of the BOB, which made me interested in a review, is its reflex design. BOB stands for “back over barrel” because the back end of the silencer extends past the muzzle over the first few inches of barrel. This offers increased internal volume without extending the length. Reflex designs are not a new technology, and we have looked at them in the past, but seeing such a design from a big-box-type manufacturer is an interesting development.
The BOB has some girth. This is necessary to provide expansion volume in the reflex portion while accommodating common barrel contours. Though it is wider than many silencers in this class, the weight is still manageable thanks to the aluminum construction and titanium thread insert. Full specs:
Weight: 13.7 oz
Length: 8 inches
Diameter: 2 inches
Calibers: .30 caliber cartridges up to 300 Win. Mag.
Rate of Fire: Controlled - 1 round every one second for up to 20 rounds. Then cool to ambient temperature
MSRP: $999.00 USD
A few other features to note: the front of the silencer includes a flash hider feature. Savage also includes a nice Armageddon Gear soft case to store the silencer in. There is also a special wrench included inside the box so the silencer can be tightened onto the host gun.
