Suunto launching the Core 2 Today!
Suunto has introduced the Core 2, an evolution of the brand’s well-known Core series of outdoor watches. It is a reimagined piece of hardware for those who need to put their trust in a tool when conditions are anything but predictable. This update has been a long time coming, as the last update on the Core was with its initial release in 2007.

Whether your a thruhiker, an overlander, an angler or a field professional, there is an expectation of low-maintenance and reliable performance from an outdoor watch. The Core 2 meets that with a host of software and hardware refinements that take the original’s legacy into a new era. With its durable build, long battery life and essential functions, it is meant to be the instrument of choice on a backcountry trail, at a remote camp or in day-to-day outdoor pursuits.
The original Core made its mark as a trusted name in the tactical and outdoor communities since 2007. Core 2 is built on the shoulders of that icon, retaining the no-nonsense identity of a true tool-watch while making some meaningful strides in usability and durability. At its heart is a revamped ABC sensor suite with better altimeter and barometer precision. An offline compass ensures direction finding is not an issue in terrain where signal is non-existent, and automatic pressure-filtering keeps false storm alerts to a minimum. There is also a new integrated storm alarm to give warning of deteriorating weather, and moon phase data for activities like fishing where timing is everything.
Visibility has been improved with a 1.3-inch high-contrast LED dot-matrix display that is 40 percent brighter than before; a raise-to-wake feature makes for quick checks in variable light. For night use or tactical situations, the red and green backlight can be switched without the glare. Operation is sure-handed even with gloves on or in the wet, thanks to oversized physical buttons and Gorilla Glass protection. Water resistance now stands at 10ATM.
Power comes from a user-replaceable CR3035 coin cell, good for 15 months of continuous use, which means less worry about maintenance on a multi-day trip. While Bluetooth does allow for time sync and firmware updates through the Suunto app, the experience is kept simple and focused.
In short, Core 2 is another example of Suunto building an instrument you can depend on when mobile networks and charging cables are out of reach.
Pricing and availability
The recommended retail price for the Suunto Core 2 is $179 USD. It will hit the market in the US on August 11, 2026, with a global release following on July 21. The watch will be available via Suunto’s own channels as well as authorized retailers in North America, Europe and select Asia-Pacific territories.
