I have never met a concealed carrier who thinks they are bad at shooting in the dark. I have met a whole lot who have never actually tried it.
That is the gap. Most of our training happens in daylight, on a range with open sky or bright overhead lights, against a target we can see clearly from the first second to the last. Then we go home and carry through parking garages, driveways, gas station lots, and hallways at two in the morning.
Low light is where the distance between how we practice and where we are actually likely to need the skill gets the widest. It is also the area where the gear and technique advice floating around is the most outdated and/or not applicable to the non-law enforcement audience.
So we are doing something about it.

Why We Asked Dan Brady
Dan is a career law enforcement officer with more than 25 years of service, including over 20 years as a firearms instructor. He has trained local, state, and federal officers along with military law enforcement personnel. For the past six years he has been part of the instructor cadre at Apache Solutions Firearms Training in North Carolina, where he has been building concealed carry curriculum aimed at the armed citizen rather than the badge holder.
Inside the civilian training community, Dan is one of the handful of people genuinely recognized as a subject matter expert on defensive white light. That is a narrower specialty than most people realize, and it is one where the gear moved forward considerably while the commonly taught doctrine largely did not.
