The Upgraded Okuma Cold Water SS A Low Profile Line Counter

By Eugene L.

Okuma has updated their low-profile line counter reel this year, with a new model of the Okuma Cold Water SS A Series low-profile line counter reel. Made for salmon fishing in the cold waters of the Columbia River and Pacific Northwest, this line counter reel is built around the stainless steel gear system, with a stainless-steel main gear, precision-cut pinion gear, and drive and spool shafts. All of these together in a rigid diecast aluminum frame give unmatched strength, torque, and longevity. The line counter is a mechanical line counter that measures in feet, giving anglers the accuracy they need to dial in and target salmon. The reel features a 5.4 to 1 gear ratio and is available in both right and left-hand retrieve, and is capable of putting out 25lbs of drag pressure.

“The Coldwater SS LP Line Counter has already proven itself across some of the most demanding fisheries in the country,” said John Bretza, VP of Product for Okuma Fishing. “What makes this update different is how closely we have worked with guides and core anglers who rely on this reel every day. Their feedback helped refine key details, improving balance, comfort, and performance while staying true to the durability and precision the platform is known for.”

The new Okuma Cold Water SS A Series low-profile line counter reel is available now in both left- and right-handed retrieve models. MSRP is set at $249.99 with a 1-year limited warranty from Okuma.
